4. And yep, I was right! The Initiative factor adds the Governmant conspiracy thing to the show that brings the idea forward that all those monsters are well known beyond the "Scooby Gang" circle.
Riley being faced with loyalty to his Government and his love for Buffy creates this constant struggle between the two and as a replacement for Angel fills the hole nicely.

I like what Joss has done with 4 adding that entering adulthood element and the Government involment factor showing that on going fact that when government get's involved things tend to get really screwed up.

Season 4, Episode 1. The Initiative and Adam don't really cut it as villians, but then the real villians the gang had to defeat was their differences. Many fans regard Season Four as a let-down, but I fail to see it that way. And Xander's isolation due to him being the only person out of his friends not go to college is very real too. Buffy begins college feeling completely overwhelmed...but once the monsters show up, it's just like old times.

And reintroducing Spike and chipping him was a stroke of genius. Here each episode will be rated. Buffy you rock. This would have killed any other show. I always struggle to compile my favourite season chart for Buffy, but one thing is for certain, season 4 is close to the best.

Show: Buffy and friends go to college, and endure some major changes in life. The last season were not so fun and only a die-hard fan (like me) would like them. In season 4 Giles is a normal guy with a nice home and acts as advisor rather than "Watcher" and truley becomes part of the "Gang". The extras include 6 commentaries and some original scripts, which are interesting and allow you to go inside the writer's or director's (who ever is doing the commentary) head.

The fourth season of the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer premiered on October 5, 1999, on The WB and concluded its 22-episode season on May 23, 2000. I get really annoyed when everyone says that Season 4 is the worst season in Buffy. Anya makes a very sexually explicit, welcome replacement for Cordy too. It was funny, clever and campy.

While buffy is settling in at college and willow finds new wicca friends ,buffy in the mean time gets a new boyfriend riley, who turns out to be one of the commandos oh and spike returns and is hell bent on killing buffy, but half way thru gets a chip in his head by the commandos whicth means he cant hurt anyone anymore.

So he got hooked and we were missing several series. They were shot in the TV 4 by 3 ratio. Starting in Season 5 the show starts to get darker and darker. The Scoobies later encounter the spirit of The First Slayer, who gives Buffy a cryptic message. Buffy and Willow went to college, Angel, Cordelia and eventually Oz left, Giles found himself without a job and Xander without a home. I have resisted the effort to letterbox BUFFY from the start and always will, because that is not the show we shot. Buffy, Willow and Oz all transition from high school into college. We lost Cordelia and Angel :'( but this just showed how strong the show was to survive 2 major losses.
