A really simple premise - what EXACTLY wd the consequences be, if another civilisation close to us, made contact - and from that he spins 2k pages of utterly logically consistent corollaries - with a major twist, revelation, or reversal pretty much every 30 pages. Allot of blabbering about politics and irrational fear that does not meld well with the scientific and science fiction plots... maybe it’s my western origins but it comes across as tedious and not entertaining.

It is an excellent read, with a solid hard science base and novel approach to the first contact and consequences theme.

Three Body Problem is an incredible story set in China that starts with the Cultural Revolution.

In spite of the unfamiliarity of Chinese names I found the story line easy to follow and the flow was good.

However, it also has a political element with hyperbole that makes it a trying and heavy read. He has written two novels ( Poor characterization, stilted writing, SLOW and boring as heck (it got a little more interesting towards the end). In the end, though, I felt a bit deflated by the reveal.
